Designed to take full advantage of both audio and traditional video DVD formats, the DVD-LS5 delivers the super high-fidelity (192 kHz/24-bit) sound of DVD-Audio. Most DVD-A discs have compressed Dolby Digital or DTS 5.1 surround tracks, however; these can be passed through the unit's digital-audio output to a compatible surround receiver and speaker system.

Resolving Error H-03
I've had this player for a few years and overall its a sturdy, small and easy to use. However, a couple of days ago mid way through a movie I recieved an error H03 and the player stopped working.
Previous reviews and post suggest that after talking with un-helpful panasonic techs, removing the back panel and using an air canister to give the player a good cleaning can result in the player working again.
This did not work in my case. What did work was spinning the clogs of the laser's track (the component the laser is attached to can be lifted straight off the base exposing the clogs on the undersurface - take care with the two wires attached) to effectively move the laser to its outer most point on the track. Note that there are two clogs, one white and one black. I found that by spinning the white clog (I used a pair of tweezers) little resistance was given and the laser moved on the track.
After replacing the panel and restarting the player, the laser moved, the DVD spun and the error message was gone. Please note that this should only be done as a last ditch atempt to get the player working and by touching some of the internal components the player can be ruined permentantly :)

Problems with reading the DVDs after one year of usage
In the beginning, the DVD player had hard time reading DVDs and then it just got progressively worse. I had the player for a little more than one year now and it has stopped playing all DVDs.

Size matters not !
I bought this little Gem primarily so my kids would be entertained on a 3 day road trip, but now I'm the one whose addicted to it! For only $199 clearance price as a "last years model", I was blown away by the phenomenal picture quality, versatility and extreme portability of this unit. Every store in town is hawking 7" screen "BenQ? Apex? never heard of that brand before - must be a cheap chinese knockoff" models for around the same price but guess what; their screens suck compared to this baby, they are cheaply made, and they are not very small. Try fitting one in your CD/mp3 player case like I can with this one! I was able to play wma files that I downloaded, photo-disks, jpeg discs, anything I can throw at it it has played. My favorite activity right now is to watch the "extras" discs from my movie dvd's while I ride the bus into work. Highly Recommended!

I don't know how we would survive without this! Easy to use-easy to tote around-easy to charge. No skipping. Perfect size screen. Little hint: your Ipod headset fits into the headphone jack.

Amazing little device!
I can't rave enough about this player. It's amazingly small and light, with the best screen picture quality I have seen. Sure, you can get one of the cheap no-name brands for a little bit less, but do you really want to strain your eyes on a washed out picture? This is one you'll actually scoop up and carry with you when you travel. The quality also can't be beat. It's well worth the $399 retail price!
