Looks Good on the Outside But...
I actually got this player through a rewards program. Perhaps the QC technicians were on brake when my unit was on the line. It is poorly made. It worked OK at first but after the 5th time of using it, the picture went out; just white and black lines appeared. I had to tap it on the back of the screen to make the picture come back. To this day I have to do this. One of these days its just going to stop working all together I suspect. I have to be careful how I tilt the screen. If its not just right, the display will go out; black and white wavy lines.
Please, do yourself a favor. Pick something else out of the rewards catalog.

You can do better
Had I read the reviews here initially, I would have looked for another brand. I bought my first 1810 unit at Cosco and within three months, my case started breaking and Cosco readily replaced the unit. I had the other unit for a little over a year and it's no longer workimg. On both units, I would sometimes have difficulties as other reviewers have reported and I would keep trying and it would generally start to work. I thought at first the DVD discs were defective and replaced one. Then I thought it was a dirty disc and would insure the disc was clean. Then I thought it was the unit needed to be perfectly level and then I thought it was that my laser needed cleaning, so, I bought a cleaner and used it. The really frustrating aspect of the whole problem was that each solution seemed to work for a while. Even though I had to start a DVD allover again to get back to where I was when a freez-up began, or if it took 20 minutes for the unit to work, I persevered. When it finally malfunctioned enough to totally exasperate me, I emailed the Mintec company for technical suggestions and never heard from them. So, it is a hit or miss proposition as to whether you will get a dependable unit and the functional ife of the unit is highly varable and the technical support is not supportive. In short, even though some reviewers are sastisfied, for the same money, you can do better.

Disposable DVD Player - Decent quality while it lasts...
I purchased this in August 2004 for my daughter during long plane/car trips. It worked well and went through a lot of use until it recently gave out (Jan 2006). Although I don't consider that necessarily good quality, if you get a good deal and buy it from a store (such as CostCo) which has a liberal return policy you can probably end up with a decent player that will last you 1-3 years or so, even if you have to return one if it fails during the initial burn-in period.

Can you say "JUNK"?
If anyone provided a review for this item right after playing it the first time, they would have written a glowing review. So would I. But I have only used it ONE time for a plane trip. When I just took it out of the case for the second time, the thing will not play. When you insert a disc, it just makes this awful noise and then says "no disc found". Regardless of what dvd is inserted, the machine does not work. It was used not more than 6 hours tops. What a piece of trash it is.

Has worked great for over a year
I don't know what happened with some of the other reviewers, but my Mintek MDP-1810 has worked great for well over a year and through 2 young children. We have taken it overseas, on flights, used at home during power outages and it is still going strong. Great picture quality and a tough little machine.
